Major Refinery Expansion FEED including World-first Technologies – Far East
Process Manager for a multibillion-dollar refinery expansion project, with responsibility for 175,000 Process manhours of work across three operating centres. The project included the implementation of first-of-a-kind technology with multiple licensors and combined steam cracking, heavy oil upgrading (hydrocracking and hydrotreating) and downstream polymer complex, as well as associated offsites and utilities.
Refinery Upgrade pre-FEED – Middle East
Principal Process Engineer services, managing the coordination of a Licensor producing a Process Design Package for 70KBD Ebullated Bed Hydrocracker, 45KBD VGO Hydrocracker and 65KBD Diesel Hydrotreater combined with a Saturated Gas Plant.
Responsibilities include development of the original Basis of Design followed by day to day coordination with Licensor to ensure project and schedule requirements are met as well as technical review of Licensor deliverables for quality and consistency.
Grassroots 3.2 BSCFD Gas Plant – Middle East
Principal Process Engineer services, managing a team coordinating the review of five licensed Basic Engineering Packages (amine treating, sulfur recovery, NGL recovery, Mercaptan removal and MEG regeneration/ reclamation) for a World-scale grass-roots 3.2BSCFD gas plant in the Middle East. Including chairing the Kick-off meetings, ensuring comments were returned to Licensors and that those comments were incorporated. Acting as liaison between Client team and Licensor teams.
Refinery Upgrade feasibility – Far East
Steady State simulation responsibility for simulation of existing 280KBD CDU and SatGas plant plus new 100KBD VDU as part of a major refinery upgrade study/ pre-FEED. Work included assessing and evaluating existing equipment, optimising new operating parameters to minimise changes while still meeting product specs. Design and preliminary sizing of new VDU column and associated pre-heat train with heat integration.
Onshore Gas Plant – Azerbaijan
Onshore facilities Lead Process Engineer services for the detailed design phase of a major gas project in Azerbaijan. Facilities comprised; slug catcher, gas dewpointing by turbo-expander, gas compression and pipeline export, condensate stabilisation and pipeline export, MEG regeneration and all associated utilities.
Responsible for ensuring issue of deliverables in line with schedule and to the required quality. Manpower planning, progress and liaising with Client counterparts. Day to day technical issue resolution, approval of deliverables and sign-off of Hazop action responses.
Phosphate Mining and Processing – Middle East
Initially we were contracted to provide Lead Process Engineering services for the FEED phase of a phosphate mining project including production of phosphoric and sulphuric acid, ammonia, plant fertilisers and animal feeds. Project involved mechanical handling of rock and other solid materials, transportation and handling of molten sulphur, integration of licensor designed equipment with open-art designed plant.
Our scope was expended mid-way through to provide Engineering Management for the work based in client’s Reading offices, managing a team of over 80 engineers across all disciplines to complete the FEED Engineering.
Upon completion of FEED, we were invited to assist with the EPC bidding process – presenting the project to potential EPC contractors, answering bidder queries, reviewing and assessing bid submissions.
Grassroots Refinery – Middle East
Provision of Lead Process Engineer services to a client for the FEED phase of a major world-scale grass roots refinery and marine terminal complex. Our responsibilities included ensuring technical content, quality, man-hour control, manpower planning, progress and schedule across all the non-licensed units of the refinery; comprising utilities, tank farm (>100 tanks), Sour Water Stripping, Amine Regeneration, Molten Sulphur storage and pelletising, Marine Terminal for raw material import and product export.
Work scope involved over 50 Process engineers operating in five execution centres, management of the teams and locations ensuring project delivery, daily contact with client and regular presentation of solutions to technical issues and studies.
