Dangers of oil

Distressing news this morning of an oil rig fire in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the report in Telegraph;

At least four people have died and 45 injured in a fire on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

It goes on to say

Wednesday’s fire broke out in the dehydration and pumping area of the platform, Pemex said, although it was not clear what caused it.

Dehydration is often carried out with glycol – typically mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) or tri-ethylene glycol (TEG) – both of which are flammable when concentrated and can be very dangerous.
